Wild-caught in B.C. · The honest take on organic seafood

Organic Fish? Wild-Caught Is the Honest Gold Standard

Here's the honest truth: wild fish can't be certified organic — nobody owns the open ocean. What you're really after is wild-caught & sustainably harvested. That's the real gold standard for seafood, and it's the only way we've ever fished.

Wild-caught, never farmed

Hook-and-line and trap-caught in cold B.C. and Pacific waters — never penned, never dyed. The honest alternative to "organic fish."

Frozen at sea, shipped cold

Flash-frozen within hours of the catch, then shipped cold across Canada. Frozen-at-sea beats the "fresh" counter — nothing's lost between ocean and kitchen.

Sustainably harvested

Caught under quota by small-boat fishers, fully traceable to the source — how a fishing family stays in business for the next generation.

Is wild seafood the same as "organic fish"?

Short answer: no — and that's a good thing. Organic certification was built for farms, where you control the feed, the water, and the pen. Nobody controls the open ocean, so by law wild fish can't be certified organic. The honest standard for wild seafood is different — and higher: wild-caught, sustainably harvested, and fully traceable to the boat that landed it. That's exactly why we retired the old "Organic Ocean" name for our home-delivery brand in 2025. We'd rather tell you the truth than borrow a word that doesn't fit.

Organic seafood questions, answered

Is wild seafood organic?

No — and honestly, no wild seafood is. Organic certification was designed for farmed food, where the feed and conditions can be controlled. Wild fish live in the open ocean, so they can't be certified organic. The real gold standard for wild seafood is wild-caught, sustainably harvested, and traceable — which is exactly how we fish.

Then why does this page mention "organic fish"?

Because it's what a lot of people search for when they want clean, naturally sourced seafood. We'd rather meet you with the honest answer than pretend a label we can't earn — we even retired our old "Organic Ocean" name for the home-delivery brand in 2025 for this reason.

What makes your fish sustainable?

Our wild fish is caught under quota by small-boat, owner-operated fishers using methods like hook-and-line and traps, and it's fully traceable to the source. In B.C., sustainable seafood is a biological imperative — not a marketing line.

Is frozen fish as good as fresh?

Better, usually. We flash-freeze our wild fish within hours of the catch, locking in flavour and texture. Most "fresh" fish at the counter was frozen and thawed anyway — frozen-at-sea means nothing's lost between the ocean and your kitchen.

Where do you deliver?

Across Canada — Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and beyond — shipped cold so your wild seafood arrives in perfect condition.

Do I have to subscribe?

Not at all. Order whatever wild fish you like, whenever you like. Prefer it on repeat? You can start a Standing Order later — but there's no commitment to shop today.

Which fish should I start with?

Wild sockeye salmon and wild halibut are our most-loved. For mild white fish, try Pacific cod or lingcod; for something rich, sablefish (black cod). All wild-caught or sustainably harvested.
