Ethics & Sustainability at Organic Ocean Seafood Inc.

At Organic Ocean, we believe great seafood should do more than taste good, it should do good.

Rooted in the coastal communities of British Columbia, our business was built by fishermen who were frustrated by a supply chain that prioritized profit over principle. From day one, we set out to do things differently, by creating a company that would respect the oceans, support independent harvesters, and deliver seafood that customers could feel proud to serve.

We’re guided by a simple, uncompromising philosophy—treat people, product, and planet with care.

What this means in practice:

  • Responsible Sourcing
We work directly with Indigenous and independent fishers, harvesters, and growers who share our commitment to ethical, sustainable practices. Whether wild-caught or cultured, every product we offer is traceable, transparent, and free from harmful chemicals or additives.
  • Animal Welfare Awareness
While we don’t raise animals ourselves, we are deeply aware of the impacts associated with the harvesting of animal-based proteins. That’s why we work only with partners who demonstrate respect for the ecosystems they harvest from and align with high standards of care in how animals are handled, processed, and transported.
  • Fair Work & Inclusive Growth
Organic Ocean is built on the hard work of newcomers to Canada, refugees, and long-time community members alike. We are committed to providing meaningful employment, paying fairly, and fostering a culture of safety, dignity, and opportunity for all. We also rely on, and fairly compensate, a number of independent contractors and consultants who bring critical expertise to our team.
  • Sustainable Innovation
We continuously invest in better ways to operate, from minimizing plastic in our packaging to optimizing shipping routes to reduce emissions. We’ve introduced ultra-low-temperature freezing to reduce waste, and we’re working on next-generation packaging to keep seafood fresh with less impact.
  • Community Commitment
For us, seafood isn’t just a commodity, it’s a shared cultural resource. We give back through donations of product to local food programs and actively participate in initiatives aimed at protecting Canada’s fisheries and coastal communities for future generations.

We don’t claim to have it all figured out. But we are committed to progress, transparency, and staying true to the values that got us here. That’s our promise to our customers, partners, and the planet.
